Why You Feel Mentally Exhausted All the Time (Even When You're Doing Everything Right)

calm the overwhelm Jun 30, 2026

Have you ever sat down at the end of the day and thought:

"I didn't even do that much today... so why am I so exhausted?"

Not physically exhausted but mentally exhausted.

The kind of tired that makes simple decisions feel impossible. It's the kind of tired where answering one more text feels overwhelming and the kind of tired that follows you into bed and greets you again the next morning.

If that's where you are right now, I want you to know something.

I don't think you're lazy. Honestly, I don't even think you need more discipline, and I definitely don't think you're failing. In fact, I think many women are exhausted because they're doing everything right. And that's exactly the problem.

If you're the perfectionist, or the high-functioning type midlife woman, caregivers, overwhelmed professionals, and women over 50 you maybe able to identify with what I am talking about.

There Was An Afternoon I Couldn't Think Straight

A few years ago, I found myself sitting at my kitchen table staring at absolutely nothing. There were dishes in the sink waiting to be put in the dishwasher, client work waiting to be recorded, there were people depending on me.

There were other things that needed my attention.

Emails.

Laundry.

Appointments.

Family responsibilities.

The usual things.

....and my 97 yr old mother-in-law needed care. It seemed as if life was moving around me, but I couldn't seem to move with it.

At first, I thought I needed to get organized.

I thought I needed a better routine. A better planner, so I purchased one that would help me in my overall life and maybe a better system.

But eventually I realized something that changed everything. I wasn't exhausted because I was disorganized. I was exhausted because I had become responsible for too much. And responsibility is heavy.

Especially when you're the woman everyone depends on.

This Is The Invisible Weight No One Sees

Most women aren't exhausted because of what they're doing. They're exhausted because of what they're carrying.

✔️ The appointments.

✔️ The schedules.

✔️ The reminders.

✔️ The grocery list.

✔️ The family concerns.

✔️ The things that need to be fixed.

✔️ The things that might become problems.

✔️ The things no one else notices because you've become so good at handling them.

It's like having fifty browser tabs open in your mind all day long. Even when you're sitting still, when you're watching television, and even when you're trying to rest.

Part of your brain is still working.

Still remembering.

Still anticipating.

Still carrying.

And eventually, that invisible weight becomes mental exhaustion. Do you see the pattern?

Here's The Mistake Most Women Make

When mental exhaustion shows up, most women assume they need to try harder.

  1. Get more productive.
  2. Wake up earlier.
  3. Find a better planner.
  4. Push through.

But here's what I've noticed after years of coaching women through overwhelm: Mental exhaustion is rarely a productivity problemIt's usually a nervous system problem.

Your body isn't asking for another strategy. 🙄

It's asking for relief.

It's asking for support.

It's asking for safety.

Want To Know Why Rest Doesn't Seem To Help

This is the part that confused me for years.

I would rest.

I would sit down.

I would take a break.

And yet I still felt exhausted.

Why?

Because resting isn't the same thing as feeling safe. You can be sitting perfectly still while your mind is preparing for the next problem.

The next appointment.

The next responsibility.

The next thing someone needs from you.

Your body may stop moving.

But internally you're still bracing.

And that is not true rest.

What I Want You To Hear Today

If you've been feeling mentally exhausted lately, I want you to hear this:

You do not need to become better at carrying everything.

You do not need to become more efficient.

You do not need to earn your rest.

You are carrying more than most people realize.

And perhaps the answer isn't learning how to hold more.

Perhaps the answer is finally putting some of it down.

Even for a few moments.

Even for one afternoon.

Even for one deep breath.

Try This This Week

Instead of asking:

"What else do I need to do?"

Ask:

"What would help me feel supported right now?"

Notice the difference.

One question creates pressure.

The other creates possibility.

And when you're mentally exhausted, possibility is often far more healing than productivity.

A Gentle Invitation For You

This realization is exactly why I created the Calm Reset Session.

Not because women need another plan. Somedays you may be in planning overload.

Not because they need another productivity tool, and we have enough of those that we making us act like robots.

But because so many women have forgotten what it feels like to exhale, and forgotten how to make the tea.

Together we'll uncover what's really driving your overwhelm, identify what's keeping you stuck in survival mode, and create a gentle path back to feeling like yourself again.

Because the goal isn't becoming someone new. It's remembering who you were before carrying the weight of everyone else's needs. And perhaps that's the real reset you've been longing for, a way back to yourself.

Start with the Calm Reset Session and take your first gentle step toward feeling like yourself again.

* I limit this to 3 per week for consistency and quality. So you need to get in now.
