Menopause Weight Gain May Cause Belly Bloat and 10-20 pounds Extra

thrive in menopause Feb 25, 2021

Many women are struggling with menopause weight gain and with belly bloat in their transformative years.

Studies have shown that on average women gain 5-20 LB., when the menopausal gene is activated.

But there are several reasons why this happens. It doesn’t just happen overnight as if by osmosis. Many of the symptoms (reasons or cause) of weight gain is within your control.

The main reasons of hormonal imbalances a t menopause is from lack of exercises, toxins in your diet, age, poor diet. movement. During the year 2020 we have seen our all-time worst cases of a reduction in movement.

During the 2020 this has been amplified even more because of being quarantine, isolated, practicing social distancing and taking on more responsibility.

In this video learn why menopause is not the cause of weight gain & belly bloat and what is instead.

To break down the reasons that women gain weight in menopause can vary. But I will say that one of the primary reasons is the obvious…lack of movement. Being more sedentary can increase stress levels in your body. When you’re going through stress it’s easy to forget about eating and become engrossed in work projects.

Since stress tends to consume you the best way to relax at the end of your day is by having a glass of wine. Why not? You deserve to experience good food and wine for your hard work when the day is over.

Therefore, falling into this ideology of “I need to relax” moment can cause you to unknowingly put weight on your body without you thinking about it.

When you consume a glass of wine, the problem starts when you drink more than 4 ounces to start.

I totally get it! Some wines are so amazing with their smokiness and ripe berry notes you can’t resist having more than 1 glass. But it comes with a price!

Hey, you know what they say, “a moment on the lips, forever on the hips”.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

We have control over what we eat or drink. However, eating at the right intervals is important for good digestion.

For the love of wine even if it cause weight gain

As much as I love a good bold medium body Chilean wine or Argentinian wine, having 2 glasses is not worth the extra weight on my hips. What I encourage my clients to have is their wine limited to just 1 glass as hard as that may be per night.

Because when you drink wine the sugars from the grapes ferment in our body as glucose. And the glucose makes us hungrier so we naturally want to eat a bit more.

Now this puts added stress on your liver to work harder just to try and filter the toxins. While it is in this mode, some food that is in excess of what we should be eating is not being stored as fat and not properly digested. There is our 5 extra pounds right there.

Time is all you need to reduce menopause weight gain

I enjoy food! After culinary school my desire to try new cuisines increased and I found out that In order to appreciate each cuisine something had to be working in my corner.

The missing piece that was lost during my over 20 lb stage was enjoying the experience of eating. After my studies in physiology and anatomy I didn’t always eat the way I should.

And the best way to eat for if we have gained weight is by listening to our body and enjoying the experience of eating.

You need to understand that foods are digested at different intervals in your body.

  • carbohydrates may take only 30-45 minutes of digestion,

  • fruit can take a total of 30 minutes to be digested

  • protein can take upwards of 3 hours to go through your body

When different foods are combined at 1 time they cause problems and encourage symptoms of flatulence as well as an imbalance.

Which ultimately, leads to the unwanted menopause weight gain.

So, it’s our lifestyle that is at the root of our weight gain, not menopause. The women that I work with know that they need support and are ready to stop making excuses.
