Oprah has left quite an impression on women around the world, in my opinion? I didn’t get an opportunity to pickup her latest magazine so I decided to take a look at her online magazine instead.  Loads of helpful tips that any woman can use in her life no matter where you are in your journey.

One of her recent videos touched on a topic that I so often share with my clients. The subject of how we as women often put others first. We are the care-givers for our family but sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves and feel guilty in the process. Recently on Oprah a panel of  women shared their point of view on self-care for women. Among such high achieving professionals were: Lisa Givens (author/t.v. personality), the fastest women in the world Olympian Carmelita Jeter, and Areva Martin (lawyer and t.v. personality).

As women it is so important to nourish ourselves; mind body and spirit. So that you don’t allow yourself to burn out. When we don’t put “US” first we are setting the example to our daughters that we don’t value ourselves.

One of the best experiences that I could’ve had bestowed upon me, was the ability to assist my mother take care of her mother. It weakened my body and spirit but I came out of that experience more empowered than before. During that time I realized how important no matter what circumstances I find myself in to make time for me.

Being a business woman your time is always a juggling act. But we can set boundaries and limitations on our time. With age brings maturity and I have come to learn from experience that people will only do what you allow them to do. So if you permit someone to dominate your time then that is what will happen. Learning to say no to others is not easy; especially when it is family. But it can be done and I am here to support you.

Your turn…

I’d love to hear from you. In the comments, leave your thoughts about how you balance work and life – how does your lifestyle affect your ability to put yourself first when life is crazy.
