Dining Out and Putting On Weight? Learn how to stop overeating.

Do you know that ninety percent of Americans don’t like to cook. Which means that dining out  is no longer a treat like it used to be when I was growing up.

If I were to ask you what is your favorite food is, what would you say?

Do you have a list of your favorite entrees or restaurants that you enjoy dining out? I do!

But I will be honest, I have favorite entrees not necessarily favorite foods. Most foods I intentionally chose to make at home because once I feel victim to dining out 4 times a week.

That is a lot and I paid the price immensely for the delight of great food.

I was sent home by my doctor with a warning…”Milan you need to lose at least 5 lbs!”. As I looked at the scale and tried on my clothes 5 lbs was not going to help me get in that seasons clothes.

Five was a great start but in order for me to get in my clothes again for the season coming up I had to lose 15 lbs.

Dining has become the new ritual

From Wednesday or Thursday night meetings, and then dinner out with a friend. No wonder losing weight and keeping it off is a never ending battle.

The more delicious the food is put in front of you the tendency to overeat is even greater. If you are having a difficult time modifying this aspect of your life and as a result of dining out:

  • Now your clothes are fitting tighter

  • The body you once loved is feeling a bit off

  • You’re not feeling your old energetic self anymore.

If this has been your experience, in this video you will learn my 3 simple strategies to lean in and give yourself permission to stop overeating when you’re dining out.

First…Listen to your body

I am always talking about this in my post and videos. What this simply means is “Don’t Overdo it”! Your stomach is 1 liter, I would say a little over a 1 quart.

So if you are over eating what happens is that you stretch your stomach to 4 liters about 1 gallon in size.

I know they say size doesn’t matter but it does in this case with lifestyle. A healthy stomach is the size of your fist.

Then…allow yourself little indulgences

I tell my clients to follow the 80/20 rule. Meaning if you eat well 80 percent of the time then you can allow yourself some treats without feelings of guilt or shame behind it.

Maybe you have a taste for salty foods or sweet foods.

If you do, give it some thought because if you are having cravings for similar then more than likely you have certain nutritional deficiencies that your body is asking you to fill.

If you’re not sure what they are, you will continue to gravitate to the same food. Grabbing the first thing that you see on the shelf that you like.

Finally…enjoy your meal, no stress

Enjoy your company with feelings of guilt behind dining. When you are eating out pay attention to your body as you take in food.

The pleasure of food in your mouth should excite your taste-buds as you experience taste, texture and flavor while you eat. If you are not having this experience then it may be time to elevate your taste buds before the season catches you unaware.

If you discover that you’ve fallen victim to mindless eating and it’s starting to affect how you look and feel about yourself. Let’s dig deep this fall to see where you are and where you would like to be in your wellness.

Following these small changes will ultimately help you to enjoy a lifestyle that is sustainable and not stressful. Your genetic makeup has a lot to do with any weight gain or loss.
