Today I want to share some of my favorite motivations in the city. This weekend was so glorious and exciting in Chicago! The city was “flying high” with excitement, literally.

So let me explain. Every year Chicago plays host city to the Air and Water Show on the lakefront, by Navy Pier . This was I believe the 60th year that we were host.

As a resident of the ‘North-side’ and living not too far from the Lake; having the privilege to see the air show jets flying maneuvers up close from my deck with friends.

As the airplanes zoomed past overhead at the speed of sound, it’s pretty amazing. My husband gets the biggest laugh out of my giddier and silly school girl behavior.


It wasn’t a show that lasted over a week, which was a disappointment.

Unfortunately it only lasted 2 days. The adrenaline of that “sonic speed” aircraft making all that noise while doing aerial tricks in the sky in full speed but then it’s let down time for only 2 short days and then it’s gone.

As I watched and contemplated how we live in a society that expects everything fast within a short window of time.

We work fast, drive fast, get ready for work fast, get our coffee fast, speed read, when we travel want to see everything in a matter of days and eat fast.

It’s no wonder we can’t stay focused on 1 thing and see it to a completion with results.

What saddens me most is that when it comes to our body and wellness, we want the same things…fast results NOW!

You need more than Desire and Willpower

When it comes to our body making lasting, sustainable and ‘transformative’ changes; we need more than desire and willpower. There is a difference in desire and willpower verses wisdom and commitment when it comes to healing the body or managing healthy weight loss.

Desire and willpower says, “I can only have X, Y, Z”.

Wisdom says, “I’ll enjoy this and that looks good then I’ll stop eating because my body tells me to; i’m already full and satiated.. I’m focus and mindful”.

In terms of changing or adopting new habits research says depending on what it is, it can take between 20 days (2 weeks) and more than 200 (a little over 6 months) for a new activity or way of being to become automatic.

What type of motivation does this mean for me?

So what this means is that … it requires the ability to sustain your attention for a significant period or time on a particular task, rather it’s exercising or adopting a healthier way of living from your mindset.

Many women are walking around feeling incomplete. On the outside, you may look successful but on the inside–you may be struggling and miserable!

Trying to be perfect at what you do but really completely burned out.

This is why it is so important and I implore you to “secure YOUR OWN oxygen mask first” (an airplane reference)!

When you are in a constant go-go mentality, to slow down may seem counterproductive.

Today, I want you to take care of yourself and be present in everything you do.

The great pyramids weren’t built in a night. Even technologically advanced super-fast aircraft have to eventually slow down for routine maintenance.

If you have been missing this aspect in your life, recognize that something needs to change immediately.

Sustainable and transformative results can and will happen but it takes time. I’m always here to support you.
