Do You Feel Stressed Planning A Dinner Party or Get Together?

The one thing I love the most is food and friends. Sometimes the things that we love doing can make our body feel overly stressed.

In the past, I’ve been so focused on my business and work that I discovered later, I missed special moments with family that can never be repeated. You know the ones that build memories for years to come even when dear ones aren’t there anymore.

However, this now I take advantage of being off and enjoying the family connection. With life being such a whirlwind, sometimes it seems as if you rarely get these moments.

So, if you are celebrating the holidays which may make you feel stressed. It is my hopes that you will be intuitive about how you eat. Just because you “can overeat” doesn’t give you the go pass to do so. Then later trying to work it off by eating the bare minimum amount of calories.

So, here are a few tips to keep you focused on mindful eating into the weekend:

1. Take a stand for nutritious FOOD during the holidays.

If you are entertaining at your home and you want to eat more of something, put it where you’ll see it. Keep raw vegetables and juices in the obvious place in the refrigerator with the idea that first seen is first touched, instead of grabbing something less nutritious.

There are several questions to ask yourself before you eat

  • is it heart healthy

  • will it lower my body fat

  • is it going to improve my brain power

  • making sure it won’t make me feel a crash of depression

  • and is it natural?

2. Stay connected to cutting off eating at 7 pm!

It’s tempting to give up your good habits, to snacking at different times throughout the day.

No matter how good food is to you, remember you can always go back tomorrow.

Let your body rest and assimilate what it needs after 7 pm. Do something nurturing for yourself before you wind down for the night to take your mind off of food. The more you focus on something else the less you will think about food.

This only works if you have had a dinner that feeds your body to stay satisfied.

The good thing about family relations is that you can always slip away and not feel guilty about doing so. As long as you come back to them later.

In the end attention and to feel loved is all really what family needs to remain close nit in the heart.

When you are with family instead of allowing situations to make you feel stressed try to be fully present with them.

Listen to them with your whole being sympathetic and empathetic.

I often find that people are simply misunderstood.

Everyone will not be like you!

The difference is what makes each person in your life special, including you.

Nothing ruins a good relationship like technology competing for attention that rightly should go to a person. Not your cell phone or laptop.

However, your time is your time, no matter where you are or who you are with. When you are planning a dinner party, the quietest place in the house will be the bathroom.

But if it is not spa-like, make a quick run to the market. This is always a good escape exit. 

3. Identify stressful situations and walk away

It easier said than done, however, any family can get on your last nerve and hold a grudge until the end of someone’s life..maybe even yours.

Stress hits all of us in life at different times. It’s how we cope with our levels of stressors that makes all the difference.

Some stress is good because it keeps us motivated and focused. But too much can bring your life to a halt. It is one of the greatest obstacles that can prevent you from achieving your goals and make you feel stressed.

Stay away from unhealthy ways of coping with stress: drinking too much, overeating or undereating, sleeping too much, lashing out at others and withdrawing from those you love.

I find that walking away from some situations and saying nothing may be the best way to ward off heated situations to keep the peace for the long haul.

It takes some forethought to how you will react to stressful situations especially when around various different personality types.

Follow these tips, and you can show up for 2018 feeling BALANCED & REJUVENATED rather than stressed!
