Ultimately, our best teacher is ourselves. When we are open, aware, and watchful, then we can guide ourselves properly–Tarthang Tulka

I saw a statement recently online that said;…women are twice as likely to suffer from depression than men. The article went on to highlight the reasons that our incidence is higher than men, which are generally; biological, psychological, and social factors. I thought to myself, that’s interesting.

As women, wouldn’t you agree that we spend most of our lives taking care of other people. Think about it for a moment…our children, younger brothers/sisters, our spouses, our parents, and our closest friends. When we use up so much time for others and leave no time for ourselves, this can lead us to suffer feelings of depression. People are constantly, making demands on our time, energies and talents.

It is okay, to sometimes say NO! If we don’t start putting ourselves first when it comes to our health, we can actually create an environment in which illness will began to take root. Our body is constantly sending out signals and messages that there is something wrong. The problem is that we have become so accustomed to feeling a certain way, that we ignore all of these signals. We go through life thinking that this is a normal part of aging. So how do we banish the blues of depression without any side effects?

ST JOHNS WORT has been an excellent herb in mild cases of depression as well as KAVA for anxiety. St. John’s wort increases photosensitiviy, so you should use caution to protect your skin and eyes from the sunlight. Not neglecting the wonderful benefits of massage therapy

In balancing your health & lifestyle, you need to learn to love yourself first! Otherwise, it’s impossible to nurture others in a healthy way-at least not without any feelings of resentment or anger. Letting go is the first step to healing emotionally and fighting depression. It happens when you acknowledge that people are a product of their environment, and that they’re doing the best that they can. As much as we want to think so, we are NOT EVERY WOMAN nor are we SUPERWOMAN

So often we feel that the best choice is to medicate. I personally feel that our approach to healthcare has become rather distorted. We want quick orders on lunch, quick train rides, quick breakfast and this attitude has transcended into how we view healthcare. Everything in life is a choice and so is wellness. You MUST choose wellness and fight depression.
