Having a magazine feature is an awesome feeling! It is truly amazing how my boutique business has evolved over the years. What started out as an idea became something bigger than myself. Just recently I was reflecting on a quote that I read some years ago, it said “you can grow without changing but you can’t change without growing”. That was the quote that literally encouraged me to take the leap into entrepreneurship.

I felt an automatic draw to this field of serving women over 40 because of my background. My lifestyle as a working woman has always demanded that I take care of myself physically. During my 20’s and 30’s I was a commercial print model so that forced me to pay attention to how I looked everyday. Even when I didn’t want to, my livelihood depended on it.

As time passed, I was tired of always having to be on cue. So I decided to walk away from the glamorous world of modeling. Later on as a FedEx driver I was forced to start paying more attention to my body on a cellular level. In order to keep up my stamina for this type of work, sustaining myself with the right foods was so crucial. I thought I was eating healthy.

My mind-shift set to growth

Unfortunately, something unexpected began to happen to my thought processes. I stopped paying attention to myself. Well. how could I, being so fatigue from driving a truck 5 days a week sometimes six. In 2006 I turned in my blue, purple and orange uniform. As I walked away from such a physically demanding career I realized that, “how I viewed myself should be more important than what others thought of me”.

A new niche finds me

Building my business in 2007 my focus niche was centered around bridal wellness. However, in 2013 after watching my grandmaman almost die, I felt the need to put the business on hold. I needed to focus on her and myself before I could give attention to additional clients. After spending time by her side, I began to be consumed with thoughts of how would I age. I wondered at what point in her life could she have turned the tables on her health. When did her body really start to decline? Was it her 30’s, 40’s, 50’s or 60’s.

Our body speaks to us everyday, so many times we simply chose to ignore it. Most of the time we don’t understand what the symptoms mean. We have become a society of masking our symptoms in hopes that it will go away. It does, but only temporary. We all have an opportunity to listen to our body. This was my moment of reinvention and who could I best serve.

The Unexpected Tweet

Wellness Woman magIn building my network of professionals, I started connecting with other women over 40. In the world of tweets I had the unexpected tweet. Wellness Woman 40 and Beyond e-magazine CEO Lynnis Woods-Mullins reached out to me. She asked if I would like to be one of their writers. Well of-course I jumped at the opportunity. I felt to speak to women around the world through my writing was an honor. Why women over 40? For starters I am over 40 and this is the stage of life when we as women are most concerned about aging. I felt alive with this new direction of serving women!

Here I am one week later after accepting my new assignment. This gave me a reason to update my LinkedIn profile, for the 100th time. Not only would I be a freelance writer for the magazine but guess what else ….. I would be their next cover girl.
